Chilled adventures in CoolSculpting
I’ll get straight to the chase with this one – I’d like to be that person who never struggles with excess weight and has no stubborn fat (i.e. a big belly). However, anyone who has been on the metabolism roller coaster can tell you that some things can not and do not change through willpower alone. Sometimes you need a helping hand, or in the case of CoolSculpting, a gel pad and an applicator cup.
To start with however, I will admit I was terrified and wondered whether or not this fat loss was natural enough and whether I could deal with that. So for a good month, I kinda put it off, until I read about how it all started. You see it all started with babies who had ice blocks and how some of these babies had developed dimples as a result. Thus started the research into cryolipolysis, the science on which CoolSculpting was based. After reading about this, I was convinced – it’s not some weaponised pseudoscience at all!
So I booked in and got a CoolSculpting treatment on my belly. I put on some lovely disposable diaper type pants and paraded my wobbly bits in what’s called a 360 degree assessment. Basically, you get your photo taken of your fatty areas of concern casting shadows over your lower body from every and I mean every angle. This is so that when you get your after photos done, you can see exactly how disgusting you looked before from every angle. To get through this humiliating experience (only humiliating if you’re self-conscious) I just shut my eyes for the photo. Kind of like an ostrich, if I couldn’t see it happening – it didn’t happen.
That was the hardest part. Not kidding. I had heard from others that pain was involved, but alas, I experienced nothing but mild discomfort. You see, I lay down, got a suction-type device placed on my belly which then sucked up the fat and rolled it into position to be frozen to death by the machine. I gotta say, rather than being painful, it was pure joy. I hated that fat as much as this machine did – this was war and we were going to win! This belly fat was being exiled.
The fatty cell death experience was detectable for about six minutes, whereupon the area got so cold that it just went numb. From here, I only felt the discomfort of knowing I was attached to a large machine. With the help of some jellybeans and chocolates (it is advisable to keep your blood sugar up while doing CoolSculpting), I nibbled away at sugar, while the machine nibbled away at my fat – symbiosis at its finest. With the addition of Netflix on my phone, I watched Shameless and caught up on nearly an hour of that rare commodity us Mums have – me time. After nearly an hour the CoolSculpting machine timed out and the applicator was removed. My belly was cold, frostier than the trade tensions we have going on at the moment with the Chinese government. As a result of the cold, the area is massaged to kind of get it moving again, which didn’t hurt as it was still numb.
For the rest of the night my stomach was still cold, which was a welcome relief on an early December night. Due to my torso feeling cool all night, I had the best sleep I’d had in years. This refreshing sleep resulted in a rush of enthusiasm the next morning that sent me straight to the gym. Although, somewhere between getting into the gym parking lot and coming back out again, my stomach had bloated – big time – it looked six months pregnant.
Ordinarily you’d say ‘that sucks’, but with CoolSculpting it doesn’t. Bloating is a result of the body sending all sorts of cells to the area to clean up the debris. A welcome sign as it means that the treatment is working! Taking that information on board, I vowed never to have CoolSculpting within a month of a big event like a wedding or a high school reunion. But yes, I will be having it again…
Now it is nearly three weeks post-treatment and things are already starting to go down. Ever since having a baby my upper belly has been way bigger than my lower, leaving me looking like a balloon wearing a bra – but now – things are starting to even out, with my upper belly and lower belly. I can’t wait to share the before and after pics at the 8 week mark when I go in for another assessment.
So what are you waiting for this Summer, you too should get to Koala Health and Beauty for a free CoolSculpting consultation with our trained staff today.
